Multiple Positions – Summary – Senior Defense Technologists

We are seeking candidates who are passionate about helping the Department of Defense maintain its technological superiority by examining both existing and emerging technologies to address known capability gaps, opportunities, and threats.

We are filling multiple positions. The selected candidates will work in Northern Virginia, primarily in government offices. The persons in their role will be responsible for working on OSD Research & Engineering’s mission by supporting the ASD for Mission Capabilities by identifying, exploring, and enabling the development of new technologies across the DoD. The technologists will support Assault Breaker II with stakeholder engagements, research, assessment, and technical support in transitioning key technologies to operational users by developing experiments and providing future warfare architectures to address numerous security challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity for successful applicants to perform at the cutting edge of defense technology concepts, testing, and fielding. These positions will require a combination of specialized warfare technical expertise, operational experience, communication skills, and program management.

We are hiring multiple Senior Defense Technologists with extensive career experience with related technical education in the following areas of specialization:

  • Wargaming (Campaign – Force on Force)
  • Land Warfare
  • Maritime Surface Warfare
  • Undersea Warfare
  • Air Warfare
  • Special Operations Warfare
  • Electromagnetic Warfare (EW)
  • Tactical ISR/PED
  • Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT)

These positions are contingent upon contract award, with the earliest anticipated start date being September 30, 2024.

What You’ll Do

  • Technology transition and working group participation
  • Identification and execution of advanced modeling & simulation capabilities to support the transition of advanced warfighting architectures for operational use and the development of capabilities needed to realize those designs
  • Development of strategic and technical plans
  • Research to support procurement activities, schedules, and technology/system transfer
  • Support to assessments, demonstrations, and field trials
  • Conduct quantitative analyses of system/mission requirements with respect to the insertion of advanced technologies
  • Assembly of senior advisory panels to provide studies and assessments on the systems and technologies
  • Definition of test objectives and procedures
  • Systems architecture development
  • Travel may be required to accomplish tasks, including travel within the CONUS and OCONUS, and within the NCR to attend meetings, conferences, and training.

Required qualifications:

  • MS in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or related discipline (strong STEM education) for all positions except Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT Position – BS required, MS or higher preferred in geospatial sciences or related field)
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience with bolstering the development and implementation of advanced warfare technologies and operational systems employment including supporting a warfare specialty with planning, developing, and executing technical projects of an R&D nature, concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on major DoD programs.
  • Demonstrated skill in conceiving, planning, and conducting research studies combining operational expertise with novel technology approaches and sophisticated research techniques to assess military effectiveness and engineering viability.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of advanced techniques, theories, precepts, and practices in technological programs, preferably one that has transitioned to operational use, or programs related to applied warfare specialty area.
  • Experience, background, and knowledge of program transition efforts is highly desirable.
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility - Required

Desired qualifications:

  • PhD in physics, chemistry, mathematics, engineering, or related STEM disciplines
  • Joint, Combatant Command service or staff experience
